Montenegro

Montenegro (Crna Gora) is one of the youngest and smallest republics in the Europe. It is located in south-western Balkan Peninsula and it has a coast on the Adriatic Sea. In the past it was a part of the former Yugoslavia and union of Serbia and Montenegro.

Ethnic structure is very mixed: except Montenegrin majority lives there Serbs, Bosniaks, Muslims, Albanians, Croats and others. Montenegrins have been, historically, members of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and Serbian Orthodox Christianity is the most popular religion today in Montenegro. The only non-Christian religion that forms a majority in certain regions is Islam, although only in the south east of the country as it is close to Albania.

It´s a country of two faces: up north there are big mountains, karst areas  and canyons, relief is extremely diverse. Weather is changeble and cold. In the south are mainly lowlands, climate is mediterranean. Diversity of geological base, landscape, climate and soil, as well as the very position of Montenegro on the Balkan peninsula and Adriatic sea, created conditions for formation of biological diversity with very high values, that puts Montenegro among biological "hot-spots" of European and world’s biodiversity. Montenegro recieved adjective „greenest country in the world“.

Much of the profit of the country goes from the tourism which is fastly developing. Montenegro has a great potential but it waits to be discovered by world tourists. There is a lot of what country can offer as national parks with mountains, lakes, monasteries, coastes or Tara river canyon (the biggest canyon in Europe and second in the world).

Following pictures were taken in Durmitor National Park, Tara river canyon, Crno jezero, cities Podgorica (capital), Cetinje, Sutomore beach and Buljarica beach.
