BACKGROUND The Trade of Whaling was what heavily influenced Herman Melville to write Moby Dick. The life of a whaler was extremely difficult, but what interested me was how much they were able to achieve with just wood and rope. This inspired me to design and build my own hardback book cover from the same materials that they had. SOLUTION The front and back cover are binded together with rope and the title of the book “Moby Dick” is carved into the front cover, I also carved the image of a harpoon into the front cover of my book because I wanted the front cover image to be of something that relates heavily to the story, but at the same time is not as obvious as a whale.
