At it's simplest, you could say Michael Pollan's trilogy is about food. The books are a vast exploration of food through the different lenses of natural history, culture, politics, art, cooking and science. The first book 'Botany of Desire', discusses the rise of the apple tree as one of the most desirable plants of all time. Using the apple as a focal point to tie the other books together as a trilogy, I've interpreted the apple's form in the other two books ; as a home-cooked delicacy and as a processed food item. The book jacket designs evoke rich cookbook colours and subtly reference antique botanical manuscripts, a nod to the trilogy's foundation in natural history. Read Less
