By using a collection of my photographs from a visit to Miami in 2009 I wanted to continue exploring the relationship of type and image. I started with a standard Futura typeface and then developed the structure and appearance of the letterforms from the inside. I wanted to adapt a typeface in order to reflect the overall characteristics of the city. From Miami's iconic art deco architectural structures, to the more recent design styles in the 21st century. I felt it was appropriate to adapt the modernist appearance of the Futura typeface in order to express an adapting style that also hints at Miami's past; its early 20th century design and architectural culture that still represents much of the city today.
