After doing storyboards for the cutscenes for Deadmund's Quest (see storyboard project folder), I was tasked with designing most of the illustrative work. The design style was originally going to be animated cut out rough sketches, but I opted to fine tune the line work a bit so they look more like rough-edged pictures you'd find in a children's book. Here's a smattering of backgrounds and characters used in the game.
This is the alternate cover I made a layout and placeholder illustrations for. I wanted to point out that the logo and gargoyle/castle tower background was designed by someone else at Zindagi and used in the template.
