Italy was the country selected to host the 2019 European Capital of Culture Event. Furthermore, there was a fierce competition among various Italian cities, Matera being just one of the many candidates. To increase its chances to win, the city of Matera started a branding contest for the city brand. Designers all over the world were asked to design the logo of the city - keeping in mind that it should be very easy to recognize and to remember. The logo we created easily communicates the name of the city and the local history. We also tried to send across a sense of belonging to a universe focused on sharing (knowledge, places, relationships) while in a continuous expansion. Read Less
