Arguably the biggest congregation of people in the world, the Maha Kumbh mela is celebrated every 12 years in India and is the most important festival for Hindus. Held in the small university town of Allahabad in northern India, 2013 saw almost 3 billion people descend for a holy dip in the confluence of two of the most sacred and ancient rivers of India, the Ganges and the Yamuna. It is believed that you are free from the cycle of rebirth if you take a dip in the Ganges during this time. The people come from all over the country, some families walking across days from their little towns and villages. With all their worldly belongings and little bundles of hope.
