[M.Arch Thesis Dissertation] IN PROGRESS Marigny Physical Rehabilitation Facility New Orleans, LA The human body is the interface of exchange between the body’s internal mechanisms, including the soul, memory and intellect, as well as its orientation and interaction with the external environment. All experiences, especially those of movement and perception in three dimensional space are dependent on the human body as the center of thinking, feeling, interacting, and orienting ourselves in space. Individuals have an evanescent cognition of their body’s presence in space that is arguably separate from what they know objectively and quantifiably about their physical existence. A dancer, for example, is conscious of the relationship of the space outside of their bodies while simultaneously moving in relationship to or against gravity from the body’s center. By acknowledging the body as a flexible boundary that is in a constant perceptual flux according to its relationship to external, three dimensional, boundaries in our environment, we can understand and manipulate the the way we perceive objects and the space that envelopes us. The objective of this thesis is to create three dimensional space in which the participant becomes aware of his/her transient body image through motion. Read Less
