Lufthansa Airlines offers a free flight to Gray Powell, Apple engineer, who lost his iPhone prototype. Gizmodo obtained the phone and leaked it to the world via an article on their site. Gray had been at a German beer garden at the time, and as a way to beat the media and experience real German beer, Lufthansa offered Gray a free flight to Munich in business class. The letter was delivered via the social media channel, Twitter (and TwitPic), and was picked up by Mashable, Gawker, MSNBC... amongst others. Read Less

Gray Powell, the Apple Engineer who had the iPhone 4prototype stolen, was at a German beer garden at the time. His last Facebook post via the phone, according to Gizmodo's article, was "I underestimated how good German beer is."

Lufthansa had just opened a beer gard, and I thought to myself: How cool would it be for Lufthansa to fly Gray to Munich? Get a break from recent events. Experience German beer in… Germany.

Two days later, the execution was pushed to Twitter seeking out Gray and offering him a free business class flight to Munich.

The effort was met with tons of positive comments, retweets, & was picked up by Gawker & Valleywag, CNNCBS News... amongst others. It is estimated that all the media generated was valued at $1 million.
