A cool red environmentally friendly pedestrian bridge draws people into wetland greenery

It was a landfill before. But now it is an educational site and a biodiversity haven for plants, birds and other wildlife.
As part of the Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme by national water agency PUB, the Lorong Halus Wetland will serve members of the public with a space to enjoy not just the tranquility and greenery and foliage of the wetland but also the new habitat for birds, butterflies, dragonflies and other wildlife.
The Lorong Halus bridge is located at the east side of punggol new town. It connects a riverside leisure strip with the new Lorong Halus wetlands across the river. Being quite remote from the center of Singapore, this eye-catcher with its wavy steel structure has been designed to attract city dwellers and invite them to spend their off-time with nature. Nature and unique wildlife form the prime attraction, therefore the architectural gesture is subtle and calm. The rustic red compliments the greenery of the context. 
Usually pedestrian bridges in Singapore are carried out as pile and beam bridges, that tend to look heavy. In this case a more filigree truss structure was chosen. Five 30 meter long compartments span between concrete piles with steel caps. The compartments are comprised of 11 steel sections, increasing / decreasing in size; consequently they are flipped and repeated to create the wave effect. The number of piles into the riverbed was decreased by the greater span, reducing the impact on the bridge’s natural environment to a minimum.    
The pedestrian bridge is lit up with ultra-efficient 10W LED linear lighting bars, replacing the conventional method of using fluorescent lights.
