This a rendering of the umbrella and packaging I designed BACKGROUND London Undercover was established by designer Jamie Milestone in 2008 with the aim to turn around the umbrella and return to its rightful position as a fashion accessory. TASK As part of the second year of my degree I was to design an umbrella, and packaging for the umbrella, that i felt could be part of the London Undercover range. SOLUTION The concept behind the design was to illustrate the amount of people and journeys made in Britain on a day to day bases. So I decided to use train tickets to form a pattern inside the umbrella because a train ticket represents one journey that has been made by a person. The pattern that I have developed would be featured underneath the umbrella while the top of the umbrella would be all black. I designed it this way so that when the umbrella is closed it resembles a classic ‘Gents’ umbrella The umbrella would be 88 to 90cm in length. I have also developed packaging for the umbrella, incase it is reproduced as a folding umbrella. The packaging features the two dominant colours that are visible on a average train ticket and it also matches the colours of the train ticket pattern underneath the umbrella. Read Less
