At its height in 2008, Camp Bucca outside of Umm Qasr, Iraq was the largest detainee camp in the world. A large group of Submariners from U.S. Naval Submarine Base New London signed on as Individual Augmentees to serve as guards at the camp to help relieve the burden on the U.S. Army. The United States handed over control of Camp Bucca to the Iraqis in December of 2010. Read Less
