Le Grand Queen - World's #1 Luxury Bathtub from Caijou

World's first and finest Luxury Bathtub, made from pure precious stone.
During the Jurassic period, about 200 million years ago, the Pangaea supercontinent broke up. Its fragments formed North America, Eurasia, and the Gondwana supercontinent in the south. The early Atlantic and the Thetys Sea were still small and only started expanding gradually. The climate during this period was warm and pleasant. The Jurassic was also the first golden age of the dinosaurs. The fossils of the oldest mammals also go back to this eventful period. The flora was dominated by large conifers, including Mammoth trees and pines, but also gingkos and cycads. What happened to these gigantic primeval trees? They can tell
us their never-ending story and take us on a journey through the chronicles of our planet. CAIJOU is what
we inherited from them. Fossilized wood from an age far beyond our frame of perception. A semi-precious
stone that unites the characteristics of wood and stone. If the earth was only a single day old, its genesis of
up to 180 million years would correspond to one hour, while the entire history of mankind would last merely
2 seconds. But back to our trees. No life without water. No fossilization without water. No water, no CAIJOU
to complete the cycle. Whichever way we look, water is always the source. And CAIJOU, of course. So what
do we do with this seminal symbiosis? Humans have been using canoes for ages to travel on water and
experience the ebb and flow of the tides. The tree, from which these wooden boats were carved, therefore
became a vital catalyst. At the same time, trees were a symbol of freedom, independence, dynamics and evolution. The cycle is closed once again. CAIJOU is the essence of evolution. The world’s first bathtub made of fossilized wood is another step in this development. Modeled after the Indonesian ‘bangka’ canoe, it embodies eternal knowledge and a timeless narrative. Something about it reminds us of a time when the world was still turning a little bit slower. This unique bath tub glides into the present on exactly these calm, smooth waves of our journey through time. The combination of trees, water, and an eager quest for balance and harmony carries us towards a new state of well-being… Just feel!

A new kind of luxury. Time loses its importance and eternity shrinks to a millisecond, only the present
counts. At the same time, moments become an eternity, extending further and further, until finally coming
to rest. CAIJOU and the world’s first bathtub made of fossilized wood are our contribution to the theory of
relativity. A new dimension of time. The production of CAIJOU already required a new measure of innovation,
intensity, and flexibility. Work proceeded under the most adverse conditions. Months of rain, fierce Sumatran tigers, poisonous snakes, and Malaria posed permanent threats for the members of our search parties.
The terrain was probed with hand drills; during the dry season, our workers excavated the treasures using
shovels, pulleys, and tripods. In most cases, only small pieces and fragments were found that were merely
suitable for producing sculptures and accessories.

After years of toil in the jungles of Indonesia with search
parties consisting of up to 200 men and 600,000 labor
hours invested, we finally discovered a completely preserved tree trunk with a gross weight of more than 10 tons in October 2008 which was suitable for our visionary project. Salvaging it was also complicated, since the pieces had to be transported for many kilometers to the next paved road. In August 2009, we finally succeeded in recovering the tree from the jungle and the following October, the precious 3.5 ton core piece was shipped to Europe. The pioneer work in handling such a large piece of fossilized wood also required plenty of patience, ingenuity, and expertise from our specialists and master stonemasons in Austria. However, after three months of relentless milling and polishing, the bathtub, designed by the young visionary Simon Krapf, started to slowly take shape and was perfected after many weeks of dedicated manual labor.

Let’s enjoy the amazing information stored in the
organic material, which has already witnessed most of the history of life on our planet. A material with incredible contrasting characteristics. Hard as stone, soft as silk, beautiful as the most precious jewels. Magnificent shapes and structures lead us away into a Jurassic fantasy world... Just try!
