An abandoned gas plant in East Germany To satisfy the increasing energy requirements of the industries in the so called "Saxon Manchester", a third gas plant was built in 1913. After producing gas for several decades, the plant was used as a gas repository from 1973 until the final abandonment in 1990/91. Disregarding the fact, that the plant has been declared a historic monument before, the gasometer and a cooling tower were torn down in 1998. Today, two producing buildings, the administration building and two urban villas are remaining on the area. Read Less
