In Portugal, due to the social and economic crisis and the austerity measures performed by the government, more and more families are unable to pay the loans of their homes. According to the Ministry of Justice, in the first quarter of 2013, 28 families were declaring bankruptcy every day. The increasing number of layoffs, wage freezes and divorces are all reasons contributing to the disruption of modern families.

During 2012 and 2013 I went to these houses, that are now for sale, to  find out what these people left, and what they took with them. The photographs aspire to document the interior of some family's homes that belong to this reality, just as they left them.
These are empty spaces that were once filled with someone's dream.
A dream that would prove to be too farfetched.
