This project required an essentially typographic interpretation of any selected brief set out by the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD). I chose the brief entitled, Not Just Fleurons, which required an exploration of the complex relationship that exists between plants and humans. The brief asked a celebration of plants in any form or variety and was, therefore, quite open. My project follows the history and life cycle of a single plant, Vanilla. The narrative of the plant is designed in a circular fashion, mimicking the cyclical nature of growth and plant processes. The interpretation consists of two parts: a traditional representation with a logical narrative structure and an abstract subversion that represents Vanilla Essence. Read Less

This project required an essentially typographic interpretation of any selected brief set out by the International
Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD). I chose the brief entitled
, which required an exploration of the complex relationship that exists between plants and humans. The brief asked a celebration of plants in any form or variety and was, therefore, quite open.

My project follows the history and life cycle of a single plant, Vanilla. The narrative of the plant is designed in a
circular fashion, mimicking the cyclical nature of growth and plant processes. The interpretation consists of two parts: a traditional representation with a logical narrative structure and an abstract subversion that represents Vanilla Essence.

This project was awarded a merit award by the ISTD and subsequently gained me a membership.
