Broadcast Design
The German TV station ZDF (Channel Two) asked me to develop the look & feel of an infotainment TV format with a strong focus on science in our everyday's life. Because the format will also be shown in the U.S. and U.K., it was important to create an international and high-class look with plenty of effects and complex animations. Thus, the broadcast design should also work on the American Science or Discovery Channel.
The purpose of "How To - The Science of Everyday Living", for example, is to explain facts like the appearance of Sahara sand or salt crystals from the Atlantic Sea in our kitchen. In CSI manner, the scientific investigation is being supported by special cameras, e.g. microscope, high-speed, infra-red, awesome macros, time-warp effects and much more. Additional information graphics ensure that all relevant, but often complex facts can be perceived by the audience.
So, the task was to develop different interface designs on the one side and combine them with 2D / 3D trackings, selective color corrections and sophisticated raster display animations on the other side. In terms of the broadcast design, it was important for me to create a clean, puristic look in combination with stunning microscopic high-speed shots and satellite perspectives on our earth and our life in the cities for the opener, bumpers, outro and so on. The message: The microcosm is part of the macrocosm, and vice versa. One is for sure: there are lots of breath-taking stories in our life.
