Gun Violence and US
Graphic Design

For my final graphic design project at college I wanted to explore something within the area of current affairs. Around the time of the beginning of the project there had been a number of high profile shootings in the US and in Europe, culminating in the Sandyhook massacre. There seemed to be a desire for change, but arguments over how to stop these crimes.

I wanted to explore the schism in US politics and find out why exactly the countries politicians were failing its citizens. I chose to create various images that would explore the various aspects of the topic, looking at groups that are disproportionately affected by gun violence and some of the reasons why successive US law makers have been unable to get to grips with the problem.

Above shows the final six images alongside photos of their display at the end of year degree show where they were well received. I would have liked to have delved even further into the project but time constraints meant that I had to finish with these six images, but who knows I may revisit the topic in the future. After all, sadly, there does not seem to be an easy fix to the problem so no doubt there will be many more years where this remains an important and relevant social issue.
