This was an assigned project my senior year in a digital illustration course. I chose to honor Chuck Jones, half of the duo that created the Looney Tunes, (along with Tex Avery) in lieu of his upcoming 100th anniversary of his birth on September 21, 2012. Chuck created some of the greatest cartoon shorts starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote, Marvin Martian, and Michigan J. Frog that have inspired me in my illustrative endeavors over the years. So for this project, I chose to illustrate characters from some of the greatest Chuck Jones episodes in a sketchy pen-drawn style, in an attempt to look like concept art for the classic characters.
The best part of this project was the research.. hours revisiting some of the best cartoons of my childhood. But the funniest moment was watching that frog dance and sing, pausing it to find the perfect pose, only to have him create a perfect lowercase 'e' with his elbow. It was typographic fate!
I did some editing and cleaned up a few things in the most recent (top) image.
This piece was completed with a 1px. brush in photoshop.
