Client description: GETXOPHOTO is a festival dedicated to photography that takes place in Getxo (Basque Country) and supports the exploration of formats, stands and unconventional exhibition spaces to show the different images.
Brief: Getxophoto asked us to design the poster and image for the 6th edition of the photography festival, this is the third edition curated by Frank Kalero which theme is “In Praise of Childhood”
Approach and solution: To develop the concept, we asked ourselves what is the common thing that children of different ages love to do besides playing and being a art related activity? That is how we came up with coloring books. Doesn’t matter if you are a boy or a girl, if you are 3, 6 or 13 years old, neither the country you live in, or the language you speak, coloring books are a universal language.
We made a series of three posters in collaboration with GUCHAGUCHA
who did all the illustrations for the series. The Getxphoto Logo was the main focus, with different characters around the logo being in the forest, the city or in space.
After having them ready we realized that something was missing, the real essence of children, so we asked some kids with the permission of their parents to help us. We gave them color pencils, markers and crayons, to paint freely the poster, with no indication at all and the result was fantastic! we couldn’t make it any better.
We had to choose only one for each version, It was really difficult task, as we loved all the paintings they made!
The Client loved the concept and the final result and the children had a lot of fun!
Credits: Gala (3 years old), painted the “Getxophoto in the forest”. Isabel (5 years old), painted “Getxophoto in the city” and Félix (6 years old), painted “Getxophoto in space”.
