We created the album art for LA band, Fool’s gold’s sophomore release on iamsound records. The brief from the band simply asked for something at night, neon colours, and possibly throw a tropical feeling in there. The band had created much of the material for the album in the desert. Living in Vietnam afforded us 2 things, experienced neon sign craftsmen, and a spectrum of natural environments, from desert-like sand dunes to lush jungle.
With a small crew, and photographer Neil Massey, we set off on a Journey around Saigon, and Mui Ne, Vietnam with two custom made Fool’s Gold neon signs. We photographed them in situation to create a range of odd and lonely images, evoking both the tone of the record, and the origins of it’s creation. Fool’s Gold’s music is African influenced, often sung in Hebrew, and produced in L.A. The set of images could come from any of these places.
