These are series of illustrations I drew for Nikica Dmitrović’s book Father’s Death - a Telegram (2012.), a collection of short stories about lives of peasants in the Croatian region of Dalmatinska Zagora, set in the mid-30’s, before World War II. The stories are light-heart and a little naive, suitable for kids and adults alike, so I decided to interpret them in a romantic, unpretentious way. Drawings are c/b ‘cause it’s a family DIY production and they didn’t have enough cash for full-color print. Illustration #2 can be seen as a hommage to local naive painters, while illustration #5 is a personal nod to Zlatko Bourek, probably my favorite domestic illustrator, who deals with similar subjects.
