In December 2011. I went to Mali and Niger with World Vision. I wanted to come away with a body of work that wasn’t the expected. I was assigned to photograph both the need and the work that World Vision were doing in the region. 18 million people suffering because of severe draught . The Entire Sahel region was on the brink of famine. Crops were failing. Children were malnourished. 1 in 6 children under the age of 5, dying. What I saw and experienced was a colourful, beautiful and resilient people. Proud and dignified. Set against a dying land. They were a people of hope. They were the ‘Face of the Land’. Read Less
