Architectural barriers are most of all a cultural issue for people living with phisical disability in Malawi
Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi
In Malawi, people with disabilities are among the poorest of the poor. Statistics indicatethat many of them probably live on less than a dollar a day. Some Malawianscall them “opunduka” and “odwala” – the crippled and the sick. While many havetried but failed to bring relief to the handicapped, one wheel chair-boundactivist, Mussa Chiwaula, has succeeded. Today, he’s the executive director ofthe NGO the Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi, an organizationfounded in 1999 to promote the rights of people with disabilities.
