In the winter of 2012, Dr. G Recordings launched a campaign to raise enough funds to press Idyl's debut album, "Elements of the Field," to vinyl. In promotion of the campaign, two music videos were created. The campaign was successful, and as a "thank you" to supporters, we also shipped a fine art illustrative print along with the album.
P R I N T :
This companion to the album is flooded with hand-drawn illustrations of different objects, plants, animals, and insects that I thought represented the “elements of the field.” Listening to the record, I imagined being on a Lewis-and-Clark-type expedition, and drew some of the things that I saw around the imagined campsite. So from lizards to smallmouth bass, to canoes and lanterns, to desert boots and thermoses for carrying along that fire water, these are a few elements of my field.
V I D E O :
Filming is still a fairly new endeavor to me – I feel at home with die cuts and fonts and Pantone color palettes, but am still a bit uneasy when it comes to pressing the “Record” button. So I knew from the beginning that I wanted to make the promotional music videos simple, one-take pieces in order to really just showcase the outstanding music. There is an authenticity to simply capturing a band’s jam session from start to finish.
