architecture: Filipe Melo Oliveira and Madalena Caiado competition: september 2009 Once an area of the city's outskirts, the site of intervention is now a moment of great intensity, with a busy road axis, residential areas and services. The proposal of the Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge over 2ª Circular is designed as part of public space, connecting and re-qualifying two distinct areas through a fluid passing motion. A metal frame holds the bridge that "ties" to a recessed square and a tower at its ends. The square and surrounding garden intended to create a place of permanence, with a coffee shop or a bar. The tower – a huge reservoir of rainwater and its treatment room – enables the use of this treated water for supply nearby gardens or washing and cleaning of public spaces. A construction of matter and space in which the motto "it's about time to be positive" applies directly to the positive impact of this part of town, on what concerns to mobility, to functional uses in leisure and environmental quality.
