Illustrator Francis Vallejo takes the viewer on a journey into inks and their exciting possibilities! You will be able to watch Francis use one reference photo and interpret it 3 times, each time using a different inking technique: nib, brush, and wash. He discusses the positives and negatives of each tool and ultimately the benefit of using all three for a successful inked image. Along the way Francis shares his thoughts on how to properly use reference images, being confident in your drawings, and a bit of commentary on his favorite inkers and how to use your influences to better your work and make it as unique as possible. Finally, Vallejo takes the last drawing and brings it into Photoshop to demonstrate a quick and efficient way to bring your inks into color. Read Less

Demo Video with CA.org/TAD

While I was recently in  Kansas City I had the fortune of being able to record a video demonstration of my inking techniques. I used a reference photo from George Pratt's Wolverine: Netsuke archive and created three pieces from the same reference using a nib, brush, and wash.

While I'm working I describe in detail my specific tools, how I feel about drawing from reference, how I handle the under-drawing, inkers from the past and present, drawing with confidence, and many other topics. I must say it was an honor to be included with such stellar company in the demo series!
