Middle Grade Chapter Book Series: Design and Art Direction
These covers are for a chapter book series with a target audience of 8-12 year olds. The main character is a writer for a middle school newspaper and it's anonymous advice column, Dear Know-It-All. Since it's such a prominent aspect of the series, the design is inspired by the look of a newspaper. I'm extremely fortunate to be working with the talented illustrator, James Bernardin, whose characters have such great energy, and I wanted to bring the same feeling to the overall design. Inspired by his line-work, I asked that he hand draw the lines and sketch in the text of my design, resulting in a playful, cohesive series look.
