This piece is my submission for Society6's 'Analog' zine competition. The theme, as the title suggests is music and sound.
I took a more organic route in my piece and drew a depiction of the Dawn Chorus.
The Dawn Chorus happens usually between the months of spring and summer, when the birds have returned back from their winter migration. As the sun starts to rise, various species of birds take their turn to sing. It's a wonderful way to wake up in the morning and it really lets you know that summer is on its way.
My pieces focuses on 4 breeds of bird that make up the Chorus, the Tawny Owl, Song Thrush, Chaffinch and Warbler.
As it happens my home town has it's very own specific breed of Warbler that is found native only to the town.
I've managed to capture the stages the drawing took, so you can see it constructed from start to finish. As per usual I used my Rotring pens 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 with black ink, and an nice old fashioned hb pencil for the preliminary sketch.
This particular collection of birds is specific to where I live, in the UK, as there are different varieties for other countries too.
If you're interested, there's a recording of it here on youtube :)
This is my dog, Dylan. He's a German Shepherd and loves to have a little cuddle with me on the sofa when I'm at my most busiest with my sketchbook. On this particular occasion he was serving a very useful purpose and was keeping my feet warm :)
The final piece is then scanned and tidied up briefly in photoshop, but no alterations are made to the piece itself.
