This medal introduces an important and quite unjustly neglected Czech artist of the first half of the 20th century – Vojtěch Preissig. The central motif of the medal is a reflection on the cycle of his prints entitled “Variations of Triangular Forms” from the years 1915-1925. This work, conceived as a regular structure of geometrical forms, outran its time by a full half-century. The basis of the medal is a little frame, in the inner part of which the text VOJTĚCH PREISSIG 1873 -1944 is placed. Inside the frame eight silver pieces of square shape are inserted. When these pieces are shifted in the little frame, structural compositions come into being that are identical with those which Vojtěch Preissig found in his creative work. The pieces inside the medal partly hide from view the text beneath them. Thus it is only possible to read the text after all the pieces have been shifted. This refers to the not easy interpretation of Preissig’s personality.
