They are a good way to track my improvement through the years!
(November 2013) After a very successful feast in 2012, I decided to take it upon myself to make it even better the next year. To create more order and organization, I pursued the idea of having physical invitations rather than rampant inviting. Our house hosted well over 100 guests with 4 Turkeys, 2 Hams, and over 40 dishes and deserts made by our own brothers and their guests.
I decided on the "Happy Turkey" theme design-wise and to humanize the turkey, I stuck a chef's hat on top. My goal was to keep the colors of Thanksgiving and of Fall intact while still creating an elegant and orderly invite card.
(October 2013) For our first event in our new Brownstone, we organized a "Pho Night." The popular vietnamese noodle soup was completely homemade and by the end of the night, not a single noodle was left uneaten.
In approaching the design, my first motive was to make sure passerbys new what "Pho" was. Visually, I drew inspiration from "Asian-style" smoke and created the rising steam coming out of the cartoon-esque bowl of noodles. Continuing with the comic book feel, I used WBXKomik as my font. As a Facebook marketing strategy, I thought it would be visually appealing and interesting to have customized profile pictures (low effort and high/positive returns) and so I ended up making different 13 versions. These were my favorite 4!
(August 2013) Columbia Lambdas organized a blood drive through the New York Blood Center to raise money for Camp Kesem.
(April 2013) A showcase of new members from the Multicultural Greek Council organizations.
(September 2012) A repeat of the previous year's Dim Sum Night.
(October 2011) The brothers brought the dimsum goodness of Chinatown right to Columbia for a night of dimsum and cultural performances.
(October 2011) As a fundraiser for one of our brothers running in the NYC Marathon on the UNICEF team, the two houses teamed up to host a fundraiser cookout!
(March 2011) We teamed up with Sigma Phi Epislon and Delta Gamma to host a Push-ups competition to raise money for "The Hunger Project." This was my first poster for Columbia Lambdas. We repeated the event the following year with the same poster.
