Carrier Pigeon
Carrier Pigeon is a magazine filled with pages of illustrated fiction and fine art. It is curated by a collection of fine artists, illustrators, writers and designers which are given the chance to fully express their work uncompromised, giving their readers a very raw and unique experience.
Knowing the identity would evolve with future issues, our inspiration was found in the vinyl and letter stencils placed throughout the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Works. This lead us to designing a stencil based typeface to be used as the masthead and primary typeface throughout the issue. Also, with such a large range of work a very strict and flexible grid system needed to be implemented. This system allowed us to arrange and build spreads in a very dynamic way, while also respecting layout requests of all the artists, illustrators and editors involved.
