Brick & Glass

  • I chose London brick as it is part of the industrial heritage.  I combined history with material investigation i.e. slip integrated with jelly or PVA glue representing the future. Each piece was a discovery, driven by material experimentation. For me revealing the possibilities of the medium I use, through making and experimentation is incredibly important.

This piece has 3 sides to it, glass, sagging ceramic and a broken side where the inside is exposed.
The nature of clay is imperfect and is juxtaposed with clean cut glass. Both contrast and complement each other.
  • This is my first object combining glass and brick clay.
I wanted to juxtapose industrial materials and this combination is often unnoticed. To show that both materials have different qualities I disturbed the surface of the brick, complementing the flat surface of the glass.
