Inspired by a trip to Scotland as well as from the discovery of an actual Edinburgh Castle visitor's guide printed in the 1920's. Images for the restaurant menus are from black and white 35mm photos I took, then manipulated in Photoshop. The stylized image of the waiter with the 3 pint glasses was based on the actual vintage etchings from the visitor's guide. Read Less

Identity
Restaurant / Bar Identity / Signage - concept

A trip to the UK a few years back, along with the discovery of an original 1920's Edinburgh guide booklet that belonged to my wife’s grandmother from Edinburgh, inspired this identity for a restaurant & public house.  I photographed the statue near the town centre which appears on the beer menu. The line art graphic in the centre of the New Castle Brown Ale coaster is a pen and ink rendering of Edinburgh Castle, scanned in from the old, vintage guide book. The Celtic Lager coaster features a Photoshop’d version of my original photo taken outside the Edinburgh Castle gates. These various elements give this identity true authenticity.

Red and gold were chosen as they are very regal, noble colours. The gold gradation background behind the waiter gives it that old world flavour. This design is one of my favourites.
