This is a book redesign of an activity book for young girls. The Daring Book for Girls originally had few illustrations and little color. Instead, there were large blocks of text and little visual hierarchy. The original design was intended to have a vintage feel, for the activities within are meant to bring girls away from television and explore the world with a creative and adventurous outlook. I wanted to keep this same message and charm, but make it more appealing to the modern young girl. By bringing in pattern, color, and icons, the young girl of today may be more likely to pick up this book instead of her iPhone.
This redesign also provides a stronger organization system for children to navigate. I created chapters and provided a table of contents within each. There are colored tabs on the sides of each page along with labeled pages to make skimming easier for young children and busy parents. I created new illustrations or adapted basic illustrations found in the original version to fit with the redesign. I created the typeface Girl Lore, which is used in headlines and titles in the book.
