My work tied in to Blackfish's 'MythFest' group show, which was held concurrently in the main room of the gallery. Read Less

Solo Back Room show at Blackfish Gallery
Exhibited in conjunction with the 'MythFest' group show, May 2006.
These 10 images first appeared together in 2006 as part of Blackfish Gallery's 'Mythfest' Group show, though I had taken them sometime before that during my turn-of-the-millennium version of the Grand Tour. I was studying archaeology at the time, and after reading about Classical civilization ever since I was old enough to pick up a book it was surreal and exhilarating to stand in places that countless influential figures had also known, from Julius Caesar to Goethe. These photographs represented my attempt to capture some of the dynamism, grandeur, and beauty that so impressed me in these places. The images, which feature seven Roman constructions, a Greek temple, a group of Carthaginian tombs, and an eighteenth-century building on Roman foundations, highlight the dramatic interaction of shape, shadow, and sky that makes Classical sites so evocative on their own terms, even as their precise forms and functions have transformed over the years.
