2nd place winner of PISA student design competition, presented at the 2012 Afrimold exhibition, JHB. This project was done in my 2nd year of study. It was inspired by the urban and rural recycling issues currently being experienced in the bustling city of Johannesburg, South Africa. My solution to the issue aims to provide waste collectors with a safe and effective method of transporting waste from rocky sand trails into conjested city roads and ultimately to allocated depot areas. It involves the use of recycled plastic, and minimal materials that are cheap and easily replaced if damaged. As well as addressing the issue of proper waste disposal, the trailer aims to establish and encourage the financially struggling collectors who are currently viewed as unemployed. Ideally the trailer as well as bicycles would be sponsored by various companies and given to the waste collectors. Read Less
