ow in the latter days of summer, Austurstræti is open only to pedestrians and traffic is directed elsewhere. Street furniture in bright colours have been set up with regular intervals so the street can fully shine as a pedestrian street. These islands of colour are a nice change from the gloom and change the monochromic environment drastically. At first a yellow dot appears on the intersection of Austurstræti and Pósthússtræti. It marks a new center where people can arrange to meet where cars drove before. Thereby the street changes to a place for pedestrians. Little by little, other islands of colour have been added and carefully situated. Passersby therefore get a chance to take a seat and enjoy all that the street has to offer, either on a green bench underneath a tree, a blue barstool by a blue table or by a yellow kitchen table right in the new hotspot of the city center.
