This is an acoustic I was commissioned to make. It has a Western Red Cedar top, solid Indian Rosewood back and sides, an American Black Walnut neck and Ebony fingerboard and binding. The sound and style of the guitar is meant to evoke the early twentieth century flat-tops played by the old bluesmen. All the inlay was hand cut from solid mother of pearl. The moon inlay at the twelfth fret is black pearl and white pearl.
The guitar also has an undersaddle pickup in the bridge, here you can see the endpin jack.
The headstock face is a 3mm veneer of Ebony, the tuners are old style Grover Sta-Tites
Here you can see the scarf joint between the neck and headstock. I prefer to move the joint to underneath the fingerboard as I feel it is stronger and it looks more pleasing. I prefer to make necks up out of several pieces of wood rather than bandsawing them out of one piece because I feel they are stronger made in this way, and it saves on wood !
You can just make out the pearl side markers on the fingerboard binding.
These are the controls for the undersaddle pickup, they are hidden from view just beneath the insde of the soundhole.
