I See a Ship on the Ocean
Presented below are two analog images related to the "Transference" memory series but differing in the addition of theatrical smoke to seemingly animate an inanimate object. For me these are images in which an object from the past continues to resonate, as if harboring a buried secret. They are images that question the trustworthiness of our own vision. They are images that expose the limitations of what is perceptible verses what is knowable. Water has always been linked to the unconscious. Perhaps the secret that seems to lie within each image is therefore the quality of a fleeting self-portrait?
