“Ashtree” is an urban plant pot that aims to help reducing the cigarette litter in the urban space.
The tendency of smokers to dispose of their cigarette butts around plants, trees and bushes in
the city, was the guideline for this design that proclaims to use this existing bad habit to solve the
problem it creates.
The basic cylindrical form of a plant pot was altered inorder to conceal any cigarette butts thrown in it-
An inclined surface around the plant forces the butts to roll off it and accumulate in three hidden
compartments integrated in the structure.
The wide side rail surface turns it into a street bench invitingboth smokers and non-smokers to seat and enjoy.
“Ashtree” participated in “JTI Clean City Lab” competition held by Japan Tobacco Internatonal and
was exhibited in The Triennial of Milan during ¨Salon de Milano¨ 2012.
