STAYCATION.DK – an interactive experience

Data driven deconstruction of denmark -
Staycation.dk campaign

This project is part of Interactive Design study at DMJX and the result of the 2nd year exam. The subject was "Visualizing Data" and the task to create a "Staycation.dk" campaign.

This Behance project serves as an insight into our design process and our considerationsof our STAYCATION.DK concept, products and campaign. We aim to inspire, involve and originate interaction with the user, to create exciting new experiences and beautiful memories.

It lies deep in human nature, the need to explore and seek new experiences. But maybe we are missing the wonders of our home, in the search for new adventures. Maybe it is time to have a look at our own country and soak  in the sensation, texture, sound, surroundings and places we might forget  to appreciate, and we will gain another kind of experience.

The dynamic STAYCATION.DK logo is a result of the data we received from the "postermaker" and collected in a database.

interactive non-linear
web-based experience

This experience is accessible on the staycation.dk web-site and is a "postermaker". Here, the user can create his/her own collage poster, by drag and dropping predefined graphic elements on a canvas. The user is then able to place, move and scale the graphic elements to his/her own likening.

The poster is a self-made framed visualization of the users staycation. The user is free to print or share the final poster on social media, to inspire and infatuate others. Travel recommendations are also provided, based on the visual content the user has chosen.

We are testing options to implement our postermaker with a lightweight JavaScript solution by using the fabric.js library and a boilerplate-code (originally meant for t-shirt designers). This gives us the option to export the finale "poster" for various merchandise – but also for further data processing and analysis.

addtional ideas
To deepen the connection to the user, we thought about different addtional advertising material. Such as apparel, instagram filters with "surprise staycations" or collaborations with local danish brands.

Neither VisitDenmark nor staycation.dk are affiliated with this assignment.
The staycation.dk campaign is purely fictional and not an imminent event.
