I dusted off my watercolors, and colored pencils, to keep sane.
Organic I.

I rediscovered the work of Alexander Ross, after forgetting his name for a solid six months. I had done some work during art school on structure, and invasion, and seeing this again, unlocked something.
Organic II.

A slightly more complex iteration.
Organic III.

A different type of pencil application on top of the watercolor.
Interconnected I.

An exploration of networks, connections, and depth.
Interconnected II.

A slightly more complex iteration.
Volumes I

Simple volumes, simple architecture, simple environments.
Weird goo invasion (sketch)
Weird goo invasion

If I recall properly, that was drawn while we were re-watching Stranger Things. The previous image is a sketch that was the start of the piece, but also an attempt to transcribe a weird, organic structure "thing."
Volumes II

Simple volumes, simple architecture, simple environments. As someone that isn't always at ease with color, playing with the limited palette my watercolor box offers is interesting. The construction of textures, and color play with pencil hues is soothing.
Volumes III

I went full space opera there.
Volumes IV

Blue sun! Floating pyramid! Giant fire pit in the ground!
Volumes V

Flying buildings!
Volumes VI

A tower of some kind, under the blue sun, the yellow skies, and the heavy red clouds.
Volumes VII

No colored pencils here.
Volumes VIII

I came across some of Signalnoise's pieces (#1, #2), and I had to draw a dune.
Volumes IX

Pyramid! Weird green circuits!
Volumes X

Floating tower! Double sun of sorts! Green skies!
Volumes XI

Pyramids! Giant sun! Giant pits!
Volumes XII

Glowing/smoking to the sky.
Volumes XIII

Strange sky beams! Cloud rings!
Volumes XIV

Floating buildings again!
GODDAMN.

An older one, found while scanning some of the analog pieces I've done recently.
Interconnected III

Simpler network, more complex colors.
Volumes XV.

Towers piercing the clouds.
Volumes XVI.

The return of the pyramid, and of the floating buildings.
Volumes XVII.

Let's add cut-ins, and cut-outs, to the buildings.
Volumes XVIII.

I used the wrong paper, but still got to try new ways of adding, and subtracting space in the buildings.
Volumes XIX.

This one is the first large scale one—11"x14". Most of the other ones are 5"x7". It's also fancy pants, heavy watercolor paper, with thick grain, and it really bites into the colored pencils. The resulting textures can be really lovely, or really messy.
Volumes XX (full sheet)

This one explores some different things:
- A corner building going in two directions
- A pencil application in zones, like the ones I explored at the beginning, with the Organic III piece
- Making a small, 5"x7", piece, on my large 11"x14" sheets

Towering flat shapes.

Zone colored pencil applications, on top of watercolor, on the flimsy paper. The paper dries weird, the colors mix into each other, and the textures are divine.
I imagine buildings upon buildings upon buildings upon buildings.
Organic flat shapes.

Another exploration of overlaid flat shapes in watercolor, covered in colored pencil for textures. I do blame Blake for the shape inspiration on this one.
