A Look at the Miller Center at the University

An experienced investment management professional, David Colin Burke is the founder of Makena Capital Management, LLC, and the former CEO of the firm. Having served on multiple corporate and advisory boards, David Colin Burke is a lecturer at the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce. In addition to this role, he serves as serves as a board member with the university’s Miller Center.

A nonpartisan affiliate of the university, the Miller Center concentrates on the intersection of public policy, political history, and presidential scholarship. The center draws on history lessons to solve the country’s toughest governance issues.

In 1975, the Miller Center was founded by Burkett Miller, who graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. Seeking to bridge the partisan divide in the United States, he hoped that the Miller Center would encourage scholars and leaders to engage in discussions rooted in American history in order to develop lasting solutions.

The center encompasses the Faulkner House, which was named for famed writer William Faulkner, and the Scripps Library. Spanning 15,000 square feet, the Miller Center reflects traditional architecture.
