Sports car racing series logo design

SuperSpec Cup is one of the most affordable wheel-to-wheel production car racing series in the US with a focus on driver development and fun.

A ready-to-race car Mazda Miata 1990-2005 model year can be bought for around $15k. All the cars are prepared to the same performance level and power capped at 140whp and 2300lbs minimum weight. There are no real advantage of one car over another outside of personal suspension setup.

Goal
Typographic logo redesign for SuperMiata rebrand now called SuperSpec Cup. Two variations needed: full name logo and abbreviation. Take inspiration from F1, IMSA, WC logo designs. And also required font selection for brand communications.

Solutions and process
Inspiration started from famous car and racing brands. Below you can see the sketches I designed.

The next step was the most relevant sketch options choice, typography digitizing and abbreviation design.

And then designing of the bottom stripe which added more race, speed and sport like colors and oblique typography design. Selected dynamic stripe option mean acceleration and tyre track in the same time.

The grid based on equal proportions of letters and the continuation of one letter to another to create a single direction in design.

Final design

Another part of work was typography choice for social media communications. Montserrat Extrabold/Bold/Semibold for headers and Karla Bold/Regular for subtitle and text.
