I was propositioned by the band Bangla Avenue to design their band's logo and the cover art for their debut album, "Kingbodonti" — which means "legend" in english. They are a jazz fusion band who's vocals are primarily in Bangla.
They wanted the album to depict their likeness as well as touch on the myriad of themes that their album covers. The concept I came up with is that the themes would be represented on a brick wall as graffiti, the lead band members walking by as if their music is painting the images on the wall. Themes of life and death, richness and poverty, old Bengali folk tales, and more and depicted here. This was an extremely fun project to work on (I spent a whole day riding my bike around D.C. looking for the perfect wall).
Next, is their logo. The shape on the left of the logo is a mandala, a buddhist religious icon that is common in Bangladesh and symbolic to it's culture and appreciated by those even outside the buddhist religion. I used graphite and photoshop to produce the image. I gave them 3 color treatments of the logo to choose from and they wanted all three! Since they were all technically finished logos by then, I decided there was no harm in giving them all of them.
