Letter H. Granite giants holding lamps in their hands (stylized Earth) meet absolutely everyone who arrived in Helsinki by train.
The station building (1904-1914) was designed by Eliel Saarinen. Granite sculptures of stone giants were made by sculptor Emil Vikström.
Initially, Saarinen wanted to make granite bears above the entrance (that bear is now standing on the stairs of the National Museum) but idea with granite giants won. The architect embodied the idea of putting bears at the entrance to the station for the station in Vyborg (see photo). Unfortunately, that station was destroyed during the war, but granite bears survived and placed in the center of Vyborg.
Granite giants from Helsinki are now the face in advertising campaigns of the railway company VR.

Perhaps the most Instagram places in spring Helsinki are Cherry and Rhododendron Parks. After a long cold period plants finally bloom and you need to have a strong will to avoid that color therapy.
The American magazine Time included the central library Oodi in the list of the hundred most interesting places on the planet.
The Helsinki Central Library Oodi is one of 37 Helmet's libraries (Helmet = HElsinki METropolia). More than 2 million people visited Oodi in 2019.

Library's name discussed a lot and at the end Oodi version won this competition. Library made of glass, steel and wood. For the facade used local spruce wood, oak and pine trees used inside.
Like in others Finnish libraries Oodi has 3D-printer, thermal press, label printer, also sewing machines, overlocks etc.
It was inaugurated on December 5, 2018 on the eve of the Finnish Independence Day, project belongs to ALA Arkkitehdit.

S-letter is devoted to Helsinki Cathedral, you may see azure dome color and stars on it as well as column decor. According to legend, the stars on the domes were added by order of Nicholai I, to whom the cathedral seemed boring without them.
A little bit history...
By decree of Alexander I, Helsinki became the capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland as part of the Russian Empire in 1812. At that time, the city was very small, with a population of 3,500 people. The Emperor ordered to build up the city like a capital. Then a development plan appears and the Senate Palace, the University, its library and the Cathedral arise on Senate Square. Ulrika Eleonoran kirkko, a wooden church standing in that place, wooden houses and cemetery (human remains are located at a depth under the city museum) were demolished, the market has been moved to the Market Square.

Letter I. This is another symbol of Helsinki that grab your ice-cream or another meal in second.

'N' letter is done in honor of Jean Sibelius, famous Finnish composer. Monument has hard history behind. His author,  Eila Hiltunen, got chronic bronchitis while doing this monument in the park for 4 years. During this period lady got a lot of angry letters... People discussed her work and lot of them were against this art. That fact became a reason why Eila got reduced payment for her work. She openly cried on monument opening ceremony in front of Finnish president, other guests and television watchers... The monument was  unveiled on September 7, 1967 at the Sibelius Park.
Small copy of the monument stands near the United Nations headquarters  in New York.

'K' (from Helsinki word) reminded me of Amos Rex museum. Founded by Amos Anderson in 1965 this private (!) museum was rebuilt and opened in 2018 as an underground exhibition area in the centre of Helsinki. Its first exhibition video installations from Japanese TeamLab has a huge success! You may see its last days (half of!) line outside! My friend and I were also there but in the line to adults with the kids :) That plan B saved a lot of time to us. Exhibition was really fun!

Ice-cream shaped letter 'I' from Helsinki word. Ice-cream is very popular in Finland and you may find ice creams with unique flavors in our stores. Liquorice ice cream you may find also as well as liquorice candies, toppings, jougurts etc. Yes, black is also very popular.
