The Carpenter CD Packaging

The Avett Brothers CD Packaging

A college assignment to design cd packaging for personal favorite artist, I chose The Avett Brothers' The Carpenter.

I really love this album, and I admire their lyrics crafting skill. The lyrics are beautiful and poetic, they provoke thoughts and invite interpretations.

This artwork speaks of my own version of interpretation, and what really resonated with me was the concept of life itself.

To visualize life, I drew inspiration from the tale of Noah. Somehow, I think the idea of building an ark to survive a giant flood in a way is just like our life. We know that waves of change will eventually strike and they are not always good, it is up to us to prepare, persevere, and have faith.

The time differences in each illustration symbolizes the phases in life, the transition (dawn), the trial (night), and
the triumph (morning).
Cover - the transition
booklet front side - the trial
booklet back side - the triumph
