BOOK CONVERSION

C O N C E P T :

The conceptual project "K": book conversion is comprised out of three parts - applying the principles of transference, syncretism and synthesis, which allow raising/changing the perceived value of the book and using its experience in actualizing the problems of today's society through the artistic prism. The method that is applied during the actualisation of the project allows to search for new visual forms, expressions, interdisciplinary connections and to create an enhanced value to the finished object.

O B J E C T O F T H E R E S E A R C H :

Object of the Research:The chosen point of reference for the narrative is the old books from the 8th to the 15th century and their

protection methods.

T H E B O O K :

The principle of phase conversion transference is applied on the book. It is characterised by direct visual repetition of the object of the research and the use of modern technology.These transformations were selected to highlight a direct link: layout grid (applying the golden ratio), initial symbols, binding and book protection (binding, clasps, and protective curses).

I N S T A L L A T I O N :

The format of the old book is transformed during the phase of syncretism. The form and purpose of the book are no longer directly recognizable. The installation is composed out of two elements: stable volumetric object and dynamic projection. By using the principle of contrast, the project notes the problematics of the decay of the physical book itself and the excess of unreliable digital information.

III.

C O S T U M E S :

The idea and the form of the book disappears. In the phase of synthesis, it connects to the consumer – the person. By using the experience of the old books and combining with the narrative of the person, three costumes that acquire a protective connotation emerge.The forms of costumes are created by using the principle of deconstruction on the book. With the help of innovative technologies like sun activated paint, a pigment that withers when water is applied, and electrical substance, typographic decisions emerge. formulas (curses) which were discovered in the objects of the research materialize.
