This project was mainly a way to try out a new concept development process I came across, but it was also a bit of a military vehicle design project.
The first thing I did was to create a very basic model in Maya, so that I could create guideline renders.  The initial idea was a 1950s style APC, similar to the M113 and the FV432
The next step was to add detail over the basic render - things like aerials, hatches, grills etc.  Details of things like the drive sprocket were also expanded.
These details were then added to the block-out model, and another test render taken to see if they matched the concept pic.
Next, the design of elements not covered in previous pictures (for example, the rear and right sides of the vehicle) were explored.
The big strength of this design process was meant to be the ease of creating concept revisions; for example the 3 different styles of rear door shown below.
Or the 2 alternative rear light arrangements below
With the basic layout of the vehicle worked out, I moved on to weaponry options
Light Machine Gun
General Purpose Machine Gun
Heavy Machine Gun
Water-cooled Heavy Machine Gun
Followed by ways of protecting the crew and occupants from harm
Armoured Gunshield
Remotely operated weapon station
Applique armour
Spaced armour
Having developed the APC, I then moved on to more some variants that could be based on the same chassis
Quad 20mm AA gun mount
Same quad 20mm, equipped with an armoured shield based off WW2 german anti-tank guns
80mm heavy AA gun (with autoloader); this was inspired by the Otomatic
Short-ranged SAM launcher, inspired by Naval SAM launchers.
Radar vehicle for the above SAM launcher
Alternative, more modern layout for radar system
